1. Purpose

Fingal Beach Surf Life Saving Club uses Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to help maintain the safety and security of our members, visitors, volunteers, and assets. This policy outlines how we manage CCTV footage in compliance with Australian privacy laws.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all CCTV cameras operated by Fingal Beach SLSC on club premises, including:

  • Clubhouse interior and exterior
  • Equipment storage areas
  • Car park and access points
  • Beach foreshore areas (club-managed)

Our CCTV system is used for legitimate purposes, including:

  • Deterring and detecting crime
  • Ensuring the safety of members, visitors, and volunteers
  • Protecting club assets and equipment
  • Assisting law enforcement and emergency services
  • Investigating incidents and complaints

3. Signage

Clear and visible signage is displayed at all club entrances and in areas where CCTV cameras are in operation. These signs notify individuals that they are entering a CCTV-monitored area and provide contact details for further information.

4. Data Collection and Storage

CCTV footage is recorded and stored securely. Access to recorded footage is strictly limited to authorised club personnel. We retain footage only for as long as necessary to fulfil its purpose.

Retention periods are determined by:

  • The purpose of the recording
  • Regulatory or legal requirements
  • The outcome of any incident investigations

Footage is automatically deleted after 30 days unless retained as part of an active investigation.

5. Access to Footage

Access to CCTV footage is restricted to:

  • Club Directors and designated club officials
  • Law enforcement agencies (with appropriate authority)
  • Emergency services (in emergency situations)
  • Individuals who are the subject of the footage (subject to privacy laws)

All access is logged and audited to ensure compliance with this policy.
